US weapons sent to Ukraine to cost more as Pentagon raises prices

U.S. sources have revealed that the Department of Defense has inflated the price of U.S. weapons that are being sent to Ukraine by $3 billion over their real value.

“We found inconsistencies in how we evaluated the equipment we sent to Ukraine,” a senior US defense official told Reuters.

The mistake occurred when the Pentagon inflated the cost of weapons that were removed from the US arsenal and then sent to Ukraine, the sources said, as the Pentagon increased the cost of the equipment by about $3 billion.

According to the same sources, Congress will be notified of the accounting adjustment on Thursday, and this could lead to more weapons being sent to Ukraine.
