US State Department urges Serbia to forget that Kosovo is part of Serbia

US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Gabriel Escobar urged Serbs to forget that Kosovo is part of Serbia.

“I want to say that after today there is reason for optimism,” Escobar said. “I would like to say that the things that we are talking about now are really secondary issues within the overall negotiating platform. I think it’s time for us to forget the narrative that Kosovo is Serbia, and moved on to the narrative that Kosovo and Serbia are Europe.”

Escobar also expressed hope that “there will be no worsening in the region.”

He noted that the region should “quickly resolve controversial issues” in the name of unity and a brighter future.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said after negotiations that no compromise had been reached on the entry into Kosovo of persons and vehicles with Serbian documents as of 1 September.
