US Military Plane Crashes Near Marine Corps Air Force Base Miramar

Last night, a US military plane crashed near Marine Corps Air Force Base Miramar in San Diego, California, officials said.

Details of the Crash

A military spokesman told Fox News today, Friday, that there was one person on board the F/A-18 Hornet and that the accident occurred in a remote area east of the base.

Statement from Miramar Base

For its part, the Miramar base said in a statement: “We are aware of an incident involving an F/A-18 Hornet near MCAS Miramar at 23:54 PT.”

It added: “This aircraft is not part of the 3rd Marine Corps Airlift Wing, but was flown from MCAS Miramar. The crash site is located on government property east of the airport terminal and there are no signs of property damage on the ground.”

Search and Rescue Operations

The statement said: “Search and rescue operations are ongoing. An investigation has been launched.”
