US does not plan to send Abrams tanks to Ukraine for technical reasons

The Washington Post, citing a US official, said that the administration of President Joe Biden does not plan to send Abrams tanks to Ukraine for technical reasons.

According to the publication, the US administration still excludes the supply of Abrams battle tanks to Ukraine, which weigh 55 tons and are equipped with a turbocharged engine that consumes fuel at an enormous rate. The newspaper points out that Abrams tanks are prone to breakdowns and require a lot of experience to maintain.

Earlier, John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the US National Security Council, said that Washington could announce new military assistance to Ukraine “in the coming days and weeks.”

Kirby stressed that new military assistance could be announced “in the coming days and weeks.”
