The Canadian unemployment rate rose 0.2 percentage points in June to 5.4 percent, the highest since the start of the year.
A report released by Statistics Canada today, Friday, said the country’s unemployment rate rose for the second month in a row, as 1.1 million people were unemployed in Canada in June.
Unemployment increased by 0.2 percentage points at the end of May, reaching 5.2 percent, the first increase since the beginning of the year, and the unemployment rate reached 5 percent from December 2022 to April 2023.
In 2020, before the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the country’s unemployment rate was estimated at 5.6% and peaked at 13.7% in May 2020.
