UN urges Ukraine to provide humane treatment for prisoners

The head of the UN Mission for Human Rights, Matilda Bogner, called for respect for humanitarian principles in the treatment of prisoners in Ukraine.

“As UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said, we once again call for respect for the sanctity of life, human dignity and respect for humanitarian principles,” Bogner said in a statement.

He indicated that he had information about the summary execution of 25 Russian prisoners of war by Ukrainian troops and similar actions carried out by Russian troops against 15 Ukrainian prisoners of war.

It stated that prisoners released on both sides complained of ill-treatment and torture.
