Ukrainian shelling turned off 3 turbines at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station

The Russian Defense Ministry said that Ukrainian forces continue to periodically and regularly bombard the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station with GMLRS missiles from American HIMARS launchers.

In a statement, the ministry noted that on August 12, Ukrainian forces repeatedly bombed the station with these American missiles, which caused the operation of three of the hydroelectric power plant’s six turbines to stop.

The statement emphasizes that the shutdown of the three turbines brought the station into pre-emergency mode.

The statement stated that disruptions in the power generation and sewerage systems could disrupt the operation of the integrated energy system and adversely affect the cooling of the Zaporizhzhya NPP reactors, which would negatively affect the power supply system, including the territories currently under Kyiv rule.

The statement emphasizes that a malfunction in the operation of the unified electrical system could lead to an environmental disaster throughout the region.

It is noteworthy that Kakhovskaya HPP is located on the Dnieper River at a distance of 5 km from the city of Novaya Kakhovka, Kherson region.
