Turkish Foreign Ministry Summons US Ambassador Over Syria-Related Actions

Today, Monday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry summoned US Ambassador to Ankara Jeff Flake after the visit of the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff to northeast Syria.

According to sources, this call was called in protest against the March 4 visit to Syria by the representative of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Mark Milley.

Sources indicated that US Ambassador Jeff Flake would have to explain the reason for this visit.

For its part, the Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned Mark Milley’s visit to an American base in northeastern Syria and considered it a flagrant violation of Syria’s territorial sovereignty.

And earlier Reuters reported that Milley, during his unannounced visit to a US base in northern Syria, stressed that “the United States, along with its Syrian Kurdish partners, are making great strides in countering ISIS.”

Milley also praised the measures taken to protect American soldiers stationed in Syria.
