Turkey’s Readiness to Mediate in Ukraine Conflict
Ankara’s Position
A diplomatic source in Ankara said: “So far there is no concrete decision regarding Turkey’s holding a round of consultations on Ukraine”, noting at the same time Turkey’s readiness to mediate.
Turkey’s Proposal for Ceasefire
An informed source added: “Ankara is always ready to mediate a sustainable ceasefire and resolve the conflict… and this issue is among the proposals.”
Turkish Delegation’s Stance
The Turkish delegation at a recent meeting in Jeddah on a Ukrainian settlement stressed that such a meeting has no prospects without Russia’s presence at the negotiating table, Turkish pro-government newspaper Hurriyet reported in a Friday report.
International Consultations
On August 5 and 6, consultations on a settlement in Ukraine in the absence of the Russian side were held in the city of Jeddah, in which representatives of more than 30 countries, including Brazil, Great Britain, India, China, the United States, Turkey, South Africa and the European Union, took part.
Russia’s Response
For her part, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, confirmed that the meeting in Jeddah has no additional value, except for Russia’s participation and consideration of its interests.
