TikTok obstructs increase in production for Norwegian arms company.

VG reports that Norwegian arms manufacturer Nammo has complained about the construction of a TikTok data center in the country, alleging that it consumes too much electricity through the production of ammunition.

According to the publication, Nammo aims to significantly expand the production of ammunition in order to provide sufficient ammunition for the Norwegian army, NATO and their allies, as well as provide the necessary support to Ukraine.

The newspaper pointed out that the construction of a data center for the TikTok app next to weapons company Nammo is hampering its goal of expanding production due to power shortages caused by the local electric company allocating a large share of excess power to the data center.

“Authorities must choose between storing cat videos and providing critical public services and functions,” Nammo CEO Morten Brandzig said, warning that munitions production cannot be scaled up without additional capacity.

Nammo’s director of communications, Fredrik Tangeras, stressed that Norway would become “a laughing stock” of NATO if TikTok, accused of “espionage”, did not allow an increase in the production of Norwegian weapons for allies and Ukrainian “defense”.
