US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland welcomed the new Chinese Ambassador to Washington, Shi Feng.
“An open dialogue is vital to our relationship with the People’s Republic of China,” Nuland tweeted.
Xie Feng arrived in Washington on May 23 to take over as China’s ambassador to the United States, replacing Qin Gang, who was named China’s foreign minister last December.
Xie Feng began his diplomatic career in 1986. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador to Washington, he was China’s Vice Foreign Minister from 2021.
Prior to that, he was the head of the Chinese diplomatic mission in Hong Kong, the ambassador to Indonesia, and the director of the North American and Oceanic Affairs Department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
