The French remind Macron of the failure of Napoleon after his statements on Ukraine

The statements of French President Emmanuel Macron, warning the French of the coming difficult times, caused a negative and angry reaction from the subscribers of the Le Figaro newspaper, especially regarding his support for Ukraine.

Macron’s statements during a speech on the occasion of the anniversary of the liberation of the south of France from the Nazis, and his call for the French to “accept the price of freedom”, and his talk about the need to support Kyiv, angered the French, who commented with resentment and pain amid the ongoing energy crisis and a sharp decline standard of living.

A reader of the Le Figaro newspaper said that he was not ready to deny himself anything in exchange for the support of the Ukrainian authorities.

Another subscriber added: “What a shameless president we have. At first he joined the United States without concern for peace in Europe. Now we have to pay for the bad decisions he made. And we dare to talk about democracy!”

Another said: “I thought that the ruble would collapse at any moment, that abandoning the Swift regime would destroy economic opportunities for Russians, and that Russia was doomed to collapse and default. But where are we in six months? Sanctions will fail, as will the siege of Napoleon” (referring to Napoleon’s war against Russia).

One reader commented: “I don’t see how Macron hopes that French public opinion will continue to support Ukraine, trembling this winter… The best support for Ukraine would be the lifting of sanctions against Russia.”
