The European Union refuses to apologize to Kyiv for the statement about"100 thousand soldiers killed"

European Commission spokeswoman Dana Spinant said that the European Commission does not intend to apologize to Kyiv after the publication of information about the killing of 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers during the recent conflict.

“There was no need for an apology, we explained the context and reasons (statement) through social media platforms. We are working with Ukraine to achieve common goals, including investigating the crimes of this aggression and bringing (the perpetrators) to justice,” the spokeswoman said at a press conference on Thursday in Brussels.

Yesterday, on Wednesday, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, made a statement about the need to impose “international responsibility” on Russia and use frozen Russian funds to restore Ukraine.

In confirmation of what she said, the President of the European Commission noted, in particular, that “according to estimates, more than 20,000 civilians and 100,000 military personnel have been killed (in Ukraine) to date.”

The paragraph about the death toll was later removed from the transcript and recording of von der Leyen’s statement. The press service of the President of the European Commission said that what was said in the statement was “inaccurate” and that the figures refer to the number of dead and injured.
