The European Union announced today, Monday, the imposition of sanctions against Iranian officials, including officials from the “vice police”, against the backdrop of a crackdown by security forces on recent protests in Iran.

European Union foreign ministers have imposed sanctions on Iranian officials, including members of the “vice police” involved in a security campaign against protests sparked by the death of a young woman, Mahsa Amini.

According to a publication in the Official Gazette of the European Union, the list of sanctions includes 11 Iranian officials, including Information Minister Issa Zarbur, and four organizations that are subject to the EU visa ban and asset freeze.

For his part, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, in an interview with CNN, indicated that his country has imposed sanctions on Iranian officials in various sectors in light of the “violent attacks” witnessed by demonstrations across Iran.

In his speech, Sullivan said the United States is trying to “make it easier for brave Iranians, women, and citizens of Iran to stand up for their dignity, be able to connect with each other, and speak to the world.”
