The Dutch national team suffers a strong blow before the start of the World Cup in Qatar

Roma player Georginio Wijnaldum, who broke his right leg on Sunday, will not return to his team until next January, which likely means he will be out of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

“I think he will be our big help in January. We have taken him with us for the whole season and expect him to return to play with us in January,” Roma general manager Thiago Pinto said on the club’s website on Friday.

“It was a tough 24 hours for me because we struggled to bring Wijnaldum to Rome. In just a week, it felt like he had been here for a year,” Pinto added.

The Dutch player, who arrived in Rome in early August, suffered this serious injury during training three months before the World Cup, which Qatar will host from November 20 to December 18.

Considered one of the main pillars of the Dutch national team, Wijnaldum is expected to miss the World Cup in Qatar.
