Taliban claims responsibility for terrorist attack that resulted in the death of four police officers in southwestern Pakistan.

Four security officials were killed in a shootout in Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan on Sunday in an attack by the Pakistani Taliban, officials said.

According to Agence France Presse, about 12 militants attacked border guards at a checkpoint on a highway in the Dhub area, which led to an armed battle that lasted two hours.

“Four security personnel were killed in the attack, including three police officers and a border guard. One of the attackers was killed, but his identity has not yet been established, three more were injured,” said Daub Commissioner Saeed Amrani.

The Pakistani Taliban later claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement.

Attacks, mostly directed against security forces, have intensified since the Afghan Taliban seized control of Kabul in 2021, and a months-long fragile ceasefire between the Pakistani Taliban and Islamabad ended last November.

It is worth noting that the Pakistani Taliban are separate from the Afghan Taliban, but they share a common ideology.
