Switzerland to Sell 25 Leopard 2 Tanks to Germany, with Conditions

The Swiss Telegraph Agency reported that Switzerland will be able to sell 25 Leopard 2 tanks to Germany, provided that they are not transferred to Ukraine.

Sale Discussions with Rheinmetall

The agency reported that there are discussions about the sale of Leopard 2 tanks to the company that produced them, the German company Rheinmetall.

Approval from Swiss National Council and Federal Council of Cantons

She added that the decision in this regard was approved by the Swiss National Council (Swiss House of Representatives) and the Federal Council of Cantons (Senate) during the discussion on the issue of military loans today, Tuesday.

Replacement of Equipment

In March last year, Germany submitted a request to Switzerland to sell 96 Leopard 2 tanks, retired from service in Switzerland, to Rheinmetall, the company that produced them. Berlin explained that it is necessary to replace equipment previously transferred to Ukraine by NATO countries and the European Union. The German side confirmed that these tanks will not be transferred to Kyiv.
