Suarez announces he has reached an agreement to play Nacional for three months

Uruguay’s top scorer Luis Suarez has reached an agreement in principle with his early football team Nacional to return to the ranks three months before the World Cup in Qatar, the player said on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old left Atlético Madrid at the end of last season and is looking for a new team to defend his colors, but it looks like he has yet to find what will make him return to Nacional on a three-month contract in preparation for his fourth involvement in the world championship.

“First of all, I would like to thank you (Nacional) for the great affection you have shown to me and my family in the last few days,” Uruguay’s top scorer said in a video clip on Tuesday.

He pointed out that this made it impossible “to turn down the opportunity to return to play for Nacional and we have a preliminary agreement with the club.”

Suárez began his career at Nacional, which gave him his first-team debut on 18 May 2005 at the age of eighteen.

After a full season in the first team, he moved to the Dutch Groningen and just a year later to the local grand Ajax Amsterdam.

The Uruguayan caught the eye of Liverpool, who joined him in 2011, and after three and a half seasons at Anfield, he moved to Barcelona in a deal worth more than 80 million euros.

In Catalonia, Suárez found success, winning four Spanish League and Champions League titles in 2015 before being ousted by Barcelona in 2020, forcing the Uruguayan striker to join local rivals Atlético Madrid, who also earned him the league title. . in 2021.

Suárez is now due to return to Nacional, where he will sign a three-month contract to play the second leg of the Clausura in personal preparation for the World Cup final scheduled in Qatar from November 21 to December 18. .
