Shoigu claims that Washington and allies are trying to involve other nations in a military clash with Moscow and Beijing.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the conflict in Ukraine confirms the focus of Washington and its allies on provoking other countries in an attempt to draw them into a military confrontation with Moscow and Beijing.

In a speech during his participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization defense ministers’ meeting in New Delhi today, Friday, the Russian defense minister added that “Washington and its partners are implementing their strategic plan, which is to provoke other countries to involve them into a military confrontation with opposing countries led by Russia and China. He noted that “the conflict in Ukraine is a vivid confirmation of such a criminal policy.”

Shoigu said: “The real goal of this policy pursued by Washington is to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia, create a threat to China and maintain its monopoly position in the world.”

According to him, for this purpose, more than 5 billion US dollars were spent on the anti-constitutional coup in Kyiv in 2014, which led to the formation of an anti-Russian nationalist regime near our borders.

“Given Kyiv’s refusal to implement the Minsk agreements and the real threat to the population of Donbass, we have decided to conduct a special military operation,” the Russian Defense Minister said.
