The Shofi Resort in Georgia’s Racha Region Completely Destroyed by Mudflows

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said that the Shofi resort in the mountains of the Racha region has completely disappeared as a result of mudflows, which he has witnessed in recent days.

Mayor Confirms Destruction of Shofi Resort

The first Georgian channel quotes Kaladze as saying: “We can say that the Shuvi resort is no more, it has been completely destroyed.”

Condolences and Gratitude Expressed

The governor expressed his condolences to the families of those who died in mudflows, who died while relaxing at the resort, and also thanked the rescuers, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and volunteers who contributed to the elimination of the consequences of the disaster by continuing rescue work.

Death Toll Rises to 17

Yesterday, on Saturday, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia reported that the death toll from landslides in the mountainous region of Racha in the north-west of the country had risen to 17 people.

Landslide Causes Extensive Damage

A landslide occurred last Thursday near a hotel in the Shuvi village, which is a small tourist resort in the mountains of the Racha region, as a result of which residential buildings, power lines, roads, and bridges in the area were damaged.
