Schultz: Germany does not want to supply tanks to Ukraine to avoid direct confrontation with Russia

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz confirmed that NATO wants to avoid a direct confrontation with Russia and that his country is among the leading countries supporting Ukraine, stressing the continuation of this approach.

Schultz’s remark came in response to a question during the Davos economic forum about the reasons for Berlin’s reluctance to provide Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks.

He stressed that Germany does not want to take unilateral steps, given that all decisions are made in coordination with the allies, especially with Washington, which “plays an important role in this.”

He added: “We will continue this for as long as necessary, and in this context, we would like to assure that the Ukrainians can count on us.”
