Russia’s decision to withdraw from the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe: Ryabkov explains the final triggering event

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov believes that Finland’s accession and the procedure for Sweden’s accession to NATO are the last straw on the way to Russia’s withdrawal from the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe.

Ryabkov stressed that Finland is not a party to the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe, so the possibility of deploying weapons from third countries in it greatly disrupts the stable balance of weapons in Northern Europe, he stressed.

“Russia will withdraw from the Treaty on Conventional Forces in Europe at 00:00 on November 7, 2023,” the spokesman added.

Ryabkov pointed out that Moscow would not try to convince opponents “who have long and stubbornly taken the wrong position.”
