Russian Navy’s Mediterranean Fleet led by frigate Admiral Gorshkov

Sources in the Russian Navy said that the frigate of the Northern Fleet “Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov” leads the permanent task force of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea.

One of the sources said: “The frigate Admiral Gorshkov, after a recent passage through the Suez Canal, led the Mediterranean Fleet of the Russian Navy.”

According to another source, the ship will be in the Mediterranean Sea “for about two months on a regular basis in the Syrian port of Tartus”, where the Russian Navy’s logistics center is located.

The frigate Admiral Gorshkov of the Fleet of the Soviet Union is a multi-purpose ship commissioned by the Navy in 2018 and modified in 2021 to use Zircon, Caliber and Onyx hypersonic missiles.

On January 4, 2023, the multi-purpose frigate went on a long voyage, in particular, in February last year, the Admiral Gorshkov frigate participated in joint naval exercises with the South African and Chinese navies. And before that, he participated in the testing of the Zircon hypersonic missile.

Earlier, a source close to the Russian Navy said that the frigate of the Black Sea Fleet “Admiral Grigorovich” after military service in the Mediterranean Fleet of Russia will undergo scheduled repairs at the Yantar shipyard (part of the US shipbuilding company), and the renewal process, as expected to take two months.
