Zelensky’s Statement on Exchanging Belgorod for NATO Membership
In a video on Zelensky’s Telegram channel, the Ukrainian president expressed his readiness to “exchange Belgorod for NATO membership,” in response to a question about a proposal to exchange part of Ukraine’s territory for peace and NATO membership.
Reaction from Maria Zakharova
Commenting on this, Zakharova said that Zelensky “clearly overdosed (drugs).”
NATO Secretary General’s Office Director’s Viewpoint
A few days ago, the director of the NATO Secretary General’s Special Office, Stian Jensen, considered that Ukraine could join the alliance in exchange for ceding part of its territory to Russia.
He said: “I think the solution might be for Ukraine to give up its lands and get NATO membership in return,” according to the VG newspaper.
The Significance of Belgorod
It should be noted that the Belgorod region is one of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation bordering Ukraine and is almost daily bombarded and attacked by drones from Kiev, which increased the level of terrorist threat in the region, 3 days ago to a high level (yellow according to the Russian classification).
Russian army forces have canceled a number of Ukrainian marches across the province in recent days.
