Russian Foreign Ministry Condemns Terrorist Activities in Mali

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow strongly condemns the activities of terrorists in Mali, which leads to a worsening of the situation in the entire Sahara-Sahel region.

Shocking Crimes Committed by Islamic Extremists

Commenting on the terrorist attacks in Mali, Zakharova stressed that the Russian side was “shocked by the new crimes committed by Islamic extremists against the civilian population in Mali.”

Condemnation of Bloody Activities

“Such criminal attacks can lead to a deterioration of the situation not only in Mali, but throughout the entire Sahara-Sahel region, which is going through a difficult period in its historical development. We strongly condemn the bloody activities of terrorists,” Zakharova said.

Prevention of Further Casualties

She noted that one of the attacks was on a passenger ship on the Niger River, but the quick response of the Malian army prevented further casualties.

Attempt to Undermine Transitional Government

She stressed that “the attacks were an attempt by destructive forces to deliver another blow to the efforts of the transitional government of Mali to establish a peaceful life and ensure national security.”

Support for Mali’s Security and Stability

And she continued: “We express our sincere condolences to the leadership and people of Mali. We reaffirm our continued support for Bamako’s path to enhance security and stability in the friendly Republic of Mali, and we will continue to provide the necessary assistance and assistance to that.”

Innocent Lives Lost in Recent Attack

At least 49 civilians and 15 soldiers have been killed in an attack by gunmen in northeastern Mali.
