Russian Foreign Ministry Accuses US of Dragging Papua New Guinea into Geopolitical Power Struggle with Russia and China

The Russian Foreign Ministry warned that the United States, by concluding a defense cooperation agreement with Papua New Guinea, is pushing it to geopolitical games against Russia and China.

“It is difficult to explain the appearance of such a document, drawn up under the dictation of Washington, but this is another step towards the militarization of the Asia-Pacific region and the escalation of tension,” said Russian administration spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to a message on the website of the Russian diplomatic service on Monday, the military, as well as the involvement of Port Moresby in Washington’s geopolitical games against Russia and China.

Zakharova pointed out that the agreement between the two countries will allow the US military to move freely on land and in the territorial waters of Papua New Guinea, including unlimited access to the state’s transport infrastructure.

The diplomacy also emphasized that, despite official statements about the continued non-use of the territory of New Guinea as a starting point for “warfare”, the content of the agreement testifies directly to the opposite, emphasizing that “Washington’s ultimate goals, which are clearly neo-colonial in nature.” in the region.
