Russian Federation’s Security at Risk: NATO’s Increased Activity and Plans for a Second Front

Increased NATO Activity Near Russian Borders

Member of the Federation Council Olga Kovetidi said that the increased activity of NATO near the borders of the Russian Federation is connected with the failure of the Ukrainian counterattack, which is pushing the alliance to open a second front.

Motivation Behind NATO’s Choice

Kovetidi said that NATO’s choice in this direction could be motivated by “saving face” of the alliance and could resort to opening a second front and strengthening it in the western direction.

And she added that this act would remove all the doubts that have recently surrounded the military intentions of the alliance.

Kovetidi said that NATO’s aggressive plans are evidenced, in particular, by the readiness of Finland, which recently joined NATO, to deploy NATO forces on its territory.

She added: “NATO is preparing for war. All this poses serious risks to the security of the allies, which should be expected in order to neutralize them in the future.

Russian Defense Minister’s Warning

Notably, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu yesterday warned that “NATO” had mobilized about 360,000 troops near the borders of the Federation of Russia and Belarus, explaining that Poland plans to occupy western Ukraine.

He stressed that Russian forces would be reinforced on the country’s western borders. Noting that since February 2022, the number of non-regional NATO forces in the region has increased. Considering that Finland’s accession to NATO, followed by Sweden’s, is a dangerous destabilizing factor.

He said: “These threats to Russia’s security require an adequate and timely response, and the necessary measures will be discussed and appropriate decisions will be made.”
