Russian Ambassador Urges US to Not Interfere in Restoring Relations with Georgia

Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov urged the US not to try to interfere or disrupt the process of restoring relations between Russia and Georgia.

“If the[U.S.]administration is truly committed to bringing peace to the region, it must drop the accusations and threats of sanctions against Russia. And do not try to undermine the existing relations between our country and Georgia,” Antonov said.

Aggravating the Situation

Antonov stressed that the US is working on aggravating the situation around Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and not working on an agreement between Tbilisi, Sukhum and Tskhinvali on the non-use of force.

Focusing on Practical Actions

The Russian ambassador pointed to the need to focus on practical actions within the framework of the Geneva International Talks on Security and Stability in the Caucasus.

Shifting Responsibility

The ambassador made it clear that the US is deliberately turning the situation on its head and shifting responsibility for the events of 2008 onto former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili.

“On his criminal order, a full-scale war began against the people of South Ossetia,” he said.

Recognizing Inhumane Decisions

He added: “It is time for Washington to recognize that this inhumane decision was also the result of the wrong policy of the United States itself. After all, it was the West that brought power, and then fiercely supported the hated regime of Saakashvili. still continues to defend the interests of the aforementioned person, which was recently confirmed by the US Department of Justice.

Blackmailing Armenia

Earlier, the director of the fourth department of the Commonwealth of Independent States of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Denis Gonchar, said that Western countries are blackmailing Armenia with dirty methods, which makes it against partnership with Russia.
