Russia was challenged by the dollar, not the other way around, says Finance Minister

Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said that it was the American currency that challenged Russia, and not vice versa, and now Russia is looking for new reliable settlement mechanisms.

In an interview with CGTN, the minister said: “We are not challenging the dollar, but this is the one that challenged Russia. Therefore, we are looking for reliable alternative instruments for mutual settlements between exporters and importers, so that these instruments are convenient, reliable and beneficial for participants in the foreign economic activity of our countries.”

This indicates that the US is using its currency as a tool in sanctions, which is detrimental to the global position of the US currency as an instrument in international trade and as a reserve currency.

Below are the most striking statements of the Minister of Finance of Russia during the interview:

– “BRICS Bank” works far from politics, so Russia expects that Russian projects will continue to be implemented.

– Russia does not challenge the US currency, but the dollar has challenged it, in connection with which Russia is looking for new reliable tools for trade settlements.

– Recently in Russia there has been a decrease in the inflation index and the stability of the dollar.

Russia’s GDP is expected to grow by 1% in 2023 as a whole.

The growth of real incomes of the population is expected in 2023.

– Russia is a part of the world economy, so it will not become isolated in itself.

It is unlikely that the US will default on its financial obligations as they are printing money.

– The crisis of public debt in the United States occurred as a result of the wrong economic policy.
