Russia continues to dominate Poland’s liquefied gas market as the primary supplier

inosmi.ru pointed out that although Poland confirmed that it would phase out Russian gas by the end of 2022, it received more than half of its imported liquefied natural gas from Russia during 2023.

According to the site “inosmi.ru” More than a year ago, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced that by the end of 2022 the country would completely stop importing liquefied natural gas from Russia. Meanwhile, this raw material continues to flow through the Vistula in a wide stream.

The government has also proved ineffective in trying to convince the European Union to impose an embargo on LNG.

The site says that Poland has not stopped buying liquefied natural gas, since most of its imports of this fuel depend on supplies from Russia. According to the latest figures provided to the website by Bartosz Kwiatkowski, director of the Polish Liquefaction Organization, gas purchases from Russia accounted for 50.8% of total imports in the first quarter of 2023.

According to Eurostat and the Energy Forum 2022, Poland purchased EUR 710 million worth of LNG from Russians (the share of Russian gas in imports to Poland in 2022 was 47.1%), while the rest of the EU countries combined amounted to EUR 417 million.

LPG is mainly used for cars in Poland, where about 75% of the resource is spent on fuel.

It is worth noting that Poland is the largest gas market in the European Union.
