Prohibition of Russian Diamonds, Nickel, Copper, and Aluminum Imports in the UK

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s office announced that London would ban the import of copper, aluminium, nickel and diamonds from Russia.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, “We will legally ban imports of Russian diamonds later this year and will completely stop imports of copper, aluminum and nickel from Russia based on the current ban on Russian iron and steel.”

The statement also says that the UK will impose restrictions on 86 Russian individuals and companies of the military-industrial complex and regions that provide export revenue to the Russian budget.

He added: “In addition to these commercial measures, the government is preparing new personal applications targeting 86 individuals and military-industrial complex companies, in addition to those related to core revenues in areas such as energy, minerals and shipping.” The list of individuals and companies that will fall under the sanctions is not provided.

Earlier, Washington announced sanctions against 300 more Russian citizens and 70 new foreign companies doing business with Russia.

A high-ranking US official pointed out that the new restrictive measures taken by Washington in connection with the G-7 summit will affect not only Russia, but also third countries.
