A former Afghan official revealed the burial place of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, who was recently assassinated by America.
On Sunday, Amrullah Saleh, former First Vice President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani, stated on his official Facebook account that: “The Taliban secretly buried the body of al-Zawahiri and his associates in the Panjwai district of Kandahar province in southern Afghanistan.”
Saleh added: “A man from Kandahar sent me photographs and coordinates and stated that al-Zawahiri and his comrades were secretly buried in the Pengeway district of Kandahar province.”
The United States announced the assassination of al-Zawahiri by a drone-launched missile while he was sitting on the balcony of the house where he hid in Kabul last Sunday, dealing a severe blow to the organization following the assassination of its founder. Osama bin Laden over ten years ago.
A senior Taliban official confirmed that the Afghan authorities were not aware of al-Zawahiri’s presence in Kabul and that the movement did not find a body at the scene of the attack.
