Poll: Nearly 80% of French people are dissatisfied with how the authorities are handling the energy crisis

A poll of the French showed that about 80% of them are dissatisfied with the actions of the authorities in connection with the energy crisis and fuel shortages caused by the strike of oil refineries in the country.

According to a poll conducted by Elabe and published by BFMTV on Wednesday, 79% of those polled believe that President Emmanuel Macron and the government are not in a position to control the situation.

The poll also shows a split in opinion over the refinery workers’ strike, with 42% of French supporting the protesters, while 40% of the rest said they did not support them.

According to the poll, 51% of the French supported the strikers’ demands for higher wages, while 48% opposed.

About half of the citizens indicated that they are experiencing difficulties in purchasing fuel at gas stations, and in the northern regions of the country this percentage reached 80% of the population.

It is noteworthy that the strike at the oil refineries of the French company Total began on September 27, while workers demanded a 10% increase in wages, as well as bringing wages to record inflation levels by 2022.

Four of the five refineries owned by Total, the country’s largest oil and gas company, took part in the strike.

The strike also affected two oil refineries of Isso-ExxonMobil.

The strike resulted in fuel shortages at about a third of France’s gas stations.
