Pentagon: Washington increases military presence in Australia

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said the US intends to increase its regular military presence in Australia.

“We will increase the regular presence of US military forces in Australia,” Austin said.

He indicated that it was about increasing the presence of bombers and fighters in addition to future shifts of the US Navy and Army.

He added: “The United States and Australia have agreed to expand trilateral defense cooperation with Japan.”

Talks were held in Washington on Tuesday between US Secretary of Defense and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and the Australian foreign and defense ministers.
