The Pentagon said the United States is working on developing defenses against hypersonic weapons.
“We have put serious resources into developing anti-hypersonic capabilities because we want to make sure we can defend ourselves against hypersonic weapons,” Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks told reporters.
She noted that “promising developments in the US hypersonic weapons programs can also be identified.”
Hicks declined to compare US and Russian hypersonic capabilities, noting that “the United States has a number of theories on how to use them effectively in combat and a deep understanding of how hypersonic weapons are being used.”
“This is different from the position of China or Russia on the use of hypersonic weapons,” she added.
