Marine Le Pen, leader of France’s far-right National Rally movement, has warned of a “social explosion” in the country amid the pension reform that President Emmanuel Macron intends to carry out.
Le Pen stated in an interview with Agence France Presse that “the French government, with its awareness of this issue, is preparing all the conditions for a social explosion, and this was expected months ago, and it is as if they were looking for it.”
Le Pen indicated that she had told Prime Minister Elisabeth Bourne that she would not try to stop her supporters from protesting the reform decision if it were passed.
In this regard, she said: “I will not take part in extinguishing the fire they set up for the second time.”
“I don’t know what will happen. The French are outraged, they feel offended and feel that the rules of our democracy have been violated,” she added.
This comes amid ongoing protests against French President Emmanuel Macron’s pension reform, which calls for an increase in the retirement age from 62 to 64. The reform law was passed last Thursday without a vote in parliament.
