A month after receiving a DUI for drunk driving, Paul Pelosi and his wife Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, hit the beaches of Italy during a two-week congressional recess.
The couple visited the Alpemare beach club in Forte dei Marmi, near Florence.
A spokesperson for Pelosi said she was at the resort the previous day and did not stay overnight. A spokesperson declined to say how often Pelosi visited the resort or where she stayed overnight in Italy.
Nancy and her husband, who was arrested a month ago for drunk driving, were spotted walking on the sand with resort owner and legendary Italian singer Andrea Bocelli and his wife Veronica Berti.
The pair were also seen chatting with the Italian resort owner and his wife in one of the beach tents.
According to reports, people on the beach did not recognize Nancy Pelosi when she was at the Mediterranean beach and asked the lifeguards for her identity.
The resort visited by the speaker of the US House of Representatives is very exclusive and expensive, and visitors need to request a quote via email to arrange accommodation.
The spokesman said the Pelosi family spent their money during the vacation. “These were personal expenses, they were there on personal trips and flew commercial flights,” he added.
