Patrushev: US may soon default on external debt

Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev warned that the US could soon default on foreign debt.

The statement was made during a video conference between high-ranking representatives of Russia and ASEAN member countries.

The Russian official noted that uncontrolled (excessive) growth in borrowing in the United States led to the fact that public debt exceeded $ 30 trillion.

“As a result, Washington will default, as it has already done, on its obligations to Russia. The financial assets of any country denominated in dollars and euros will simply be stolen,” he said.

Regarding the reasons, Patrushev pointed out that this happened as a result of the irresponsible policies pursued by Western central banks in recent years.

He said that the main reason for the rise in prices for food and energy was the “printing” operating in the US and Europe, since during the pandemic there was the largest emission of money in 40 years: the US printed 5.9 trillion dollars, and Europe almost 2.9 trillion Euro.
