German Mesut Ozil, the star of the Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir, praised the performance of the Moroccan national team against France in the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup.
Özil, who won the 2014 World Cup with Germany, cheered for Morocco from the stands of Al Bayt Stadium, posting a photo from the stadium on his social media less than an hour before kick-off.

Özil signaled his support for the Moroccan national team by commenting on the photo: “Can’t wait for a great semi-final, come on Morocco.”

After the match, Özil tweeted in a message of condolence to the Moroccan national team: “You have already made history. The team has tried everything. There is nothing shameful in today’s speech. Moroccans can be incredibly proud.”
France reached the final of the World Cup in Qatar, where they will face Argentina after defeating the Moroccan side 2-0 in the match, which took place on Wednesday evening at Al Bayt Stadium in Qatar.
Morocco will play the match for third place against Croatia next Saturday at the Khalifa International Stadium.
