One person died and 17 were injured after a car plowed into a crowd on a street in Berwick, Pennsylvania, in the eastern United States Saturday night, local police said.
A police statement said the man suspected of the hit-and-run was in custody pending criminal charges, adding that the man was also suspected of killing a woman in the nearby town of Neskobiec on the same day.
And the media pointed out that the accident occurred near a gathering of people collecting donations for the victims of a fire that killed seven adults and three children in the nearby town of Niskobek a few days ago.

It was not immediately clear the circumstances of the hit-and-run incident and whether it was related to the Niskoback fire or a fundraising campaign.
