Sevilla have appointed Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli to replace Julen Lopetegui, who was sacked on Wednesday after losing 4-1 to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
“Sampaoli has signed a contract until June 30, 2024 and will have his first training session tonight (Thursday),” the Andalusian club said in a statement published today, Thursday, on its website.
Sevilla sacked their former coach Lopetegui immediately after losing 4-1 to Borussia Dortmund in the third round of Group G of the Champions League.
Sampaoli returns to the post of coach of Sevilla, holding this position in the 2016-2017 season, and then moved to coach the Argentina national team.
The 62-year-old has been free from any contractual relationship since leaving Marseille, France last July.
Sevilla are last fourth in Group G in the Champions League with one point, 8 points behind leaders Manchester City. They endure the Andalusian club in the Spanish Championship, where they are 17th after a series of poor results.
