US club Atlanta United president Darren Ailes will become CEO of English club Newcastle United, owned by the Saudi Arabian Sovereign Investment Fund, according to a statement from the two clubs.
Newcastle are a giant club and the beating heart of their community, Ailes said in a statement. “Every time I visited St. James Park, I was struck by the passion of the fans.”

He joins from @AtLUTDwhere he has been president and chief executive officer since their founding in 2014.

Atlanta United brought in the 49-year-old Ailes in 2014 and he will remain with him until 8 August, before embarking on his new mission with Newcastle in the English Premier League on 22 August.
Ailes also previously served as chief executive of Tottenham Hotspur and West Bromwich Albion.
It is worth noting that Newcastle last season finished 11th in the English Premier League.
