U.S. officials have urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to demonstrate a willingness to negotiate an end to the conflict.
New York Times journalist Michael Crowley said Western officials found it hard to imagine peace talks in which both sides set conditions that could not be met anytime soon and declared their intention to “fight to victory.”
He stressed that when US officials talk about supporting Ukraine “as much as necessary,” they say their goal is to strengthen Kiev’s position in possible peace talks, “without specifying when they might begin.”
Earlier, CNN reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky intends to send to Washington a new list of types of weapons that his country needs, including F-16 fighter jets.
