New Law in Florida Permits Concealed Carry of Weapons for All Citizens

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a law allowing anyone to carry a “hidden” firearm without a permit. The White House called the decision “shameful.”

DeSantis signed the legislation into law in a private ceremony at his office, making Florida the 26th U.S. state to enact an unauthorized carry concealed weapon law.

In a brief press statement, he said that the constitution guaranteed this right.

The law, which goes into effect July 1, will allow anyone to legally own a gun in Florida without having to go through a background check or undergo any training to buy a gun.

The bill was overwhelmingly approved in the Florida state legislature last week, three days after the mass shooting at a Nashville elementary school that killed six people, including three nine-year-olds.

White House Press Secretary Karen Jean-Pierre criticized Florida Gov. for signing the legislation, saying, “It is shameful that shortly after yet another tragic school shooting, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law the Unauthorized Carrying of Cache Behind Closed Doors, repealing the requirement for a concealed carry license.” weapons.
