Queen Elizabeth II’s eldest son, Crown Prince Charles, became King of Britain and was nicknamed King Charles III after the Queen’s death was announced.
Charles is starting an obscure new chapter for the royal family, after the reign of a queen who broke the record by taking the throne for 70 years.
In his first statement, King Charles said: “The death of my beloved mother, Queen Elizabeth, represents for me the greatest moment of sadness.”
Buckingham Palace has announced the death of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96 at Balmoral Palace in Scotland.
