French President Emmanuel Macron, in a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, expressed “grave concern” about the recent Russian missile strikes on Ukraine.

Macron promised to increase military support for Kyiv from France.

“The President expressed his deep concern over the strikes that caused civilian casualties and reaffirmed his full and unconditional support for President Zelensky and France’s commitment to strengthen support for Ukraine in accordance with the needs expressed by Kyiv, including in the field of military equipment,” the Elysee Palace said in a statement. .

On Monday afternoon, Macron said during a visit to Mayenne (northeast) that “the deliberate strikes carried out by Russia throughout Ukraine and against the civilian population represent a profound change in the nature of this war.”

He added that as soon as he returns to Paris, he will convene his diplomatic and military advisers dealing with the Ukrainian case to “assess” the situation after months of unprecedented rocket attacks.

The Élysée Palace confirmed that a small council on defense issues was held on Monday evening under the leadership of Macron, which lasted an hour and a half in the presence of foreign ministers Catherine Colonna and the armies of Sebastian Licornu.

The French president said that during the meeting, Macron took “new measures to support Ukraine militarily and meet the needs of its population.”
