Macron praises maritime agreement between Lebanon and Israel

French President Emmanuel Macron praised what he called a “historic agreement” to resolve the maritime border dispute between Lebanon and Israel, calling it “an important step towards peace” in the region.

Macron congratulated Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid and Lebanese Presidents and Ministers Michel Aoun and Najib Mikati for their “effort and determination” to reach an agreement, according to the French president.

The Élysée Palace said: “This is undoubtedly an important step towards greater peace for Israel, Lebanon and all the countries and peoples of the region”, emphasizing that the agreement “will contribute to stability in the Middle East and the security of Israel and Lebanon, and contribute to the prosperity of the two countries” .

The Elysee Palace explained that the agreement “represents a positive example for the region in terms of what can be achieved through a common desire to achieve a result in demanding negotiations carried out in a respectful context.”

The French Presidency indicated that the three officials “thanked the head of state for his and France’s contribution to the conclusion of this agreement.”
