French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday praised Algeria’s contribution to “diversifying” sources of gas supplies to Europe by increasing its exports to Italy.
On the second day of his visit to Algiers, Macron stressed that “we are not competing with Italy” for Algerian gas, highlighting France’s “weak role in the energy balance” of France.
He added: “I thank Algeria” for increasing the amount of gas in the gas pipeline that feeds Italy, it’s good for Italy, it’s good for Europe and contributes to the diversification (sources) in Europe”, which was heavily dependent on Russian gas. .
