Lula da Silva in his victory speech: Brazil is back on the international stage, will not be ostracized and needs unity

In his first comment since winning the presidential election, Brazil’s President-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stressed that the country needs peace and unity.

Brazil’s President-elect da Silva announced in his victory speech Sunday night that his country has “returned” to the international stage and no longer wants to be “outcast.”

In his speech, the Left icon emphasized that “it is in nobody’s interest to live in a divided nation in a state of perpetual war” after an election campaign that divided and deeply polarized the country.

“Today we tell the world that Brazil is back” and that it is “ready to reclaim its place in the fight against the climate crisis,” he added.

In a tweet to him on Twitter, Lula da Silva said: “They tried to bury me alive and now I’m here to run the country … in a very difficult situation, but I’m sure that with the help of people we will find a way out and restore peace.”

He added that he was not opposed to the candidate, but to the state machine put at the service of the candidate, referring to his rival Jair Bolsonaro.

He continued: “We have come to the end of one of the most important elections in our history … an election that brought two opposing projects head-to-head for the country, and on this day there is one great winner: the Brazilian people.”

He added: “This is not a victory for me, the Labor Party or the parties that supported me in this campaign. This is the victory of the mass democratic movement that has formed over political parties, personal interests and ideologies, for democracy, a triumph.”

He said that on October 30, which he described as historic, the majority of the Brazilian people made it clear that they wanted more democracy.

He stated that the Brazilian people have demonstrated today that they want more than just exercise their sacred right to choose who will govern their lives and want to actively participate in government decision-making.

“Brazilians want to live well and eat well, they want to have a good job and a salary that is always higher than inflation, they want education and good health, they want religious freedom and they want books instead of weapons… Brazilians want hope back,” he explained.

The new president stressed that the wheel of the economy is turning again.

And he indicated that from January 1, 2023, 215 million Brazilians will rule, and not just those who voted for him, because there are no two Brazilians, adding: “We are one country, one people.”

He pointed out that this Brazil needed peace and unity and that these people no longer wanted to fight and it was time to lay down the weapons that should not have been used.

He underlined that he faces enormous challenges and that it is necessary to restore the country in all its dimensions in politics, economy, public administration, institutional harmony, international relations and, above all, in caring for the most needy. .

“We can all reform this country and build a Brazil the size of our dream with the ability to make it a reality. We will live in a new time, a time of peace and love. This is the time when Brazilians have the right to dream again,” he said.
