Landslide in Ecuador Claims 16 Lives

Ecuador’s emergency management said at least 16 people were killed by a landslide in the city of Alusa in central Ecuador.

The statement said: “So far, 16 dead, 16 injured and 7 missing have been reported.”

There were 500 people in the disaster zone. The Red Cross estimated that 163 houses were destroyed or damaged in the collapse. Search and rescue work continues.

The landslide hit residential buildings on Monday night. The Department of Emergency Situations issued a warning about the risk of displacement and movement of stones in the city of Alosi.
